Florida Tech wins 2020 HR Florida Virtual Student Games Case Competition
The Florida Tech SHRM Student Chapter won first place within the graduate-level division at the 2020 HR Florida Virtual Student Games Case Competition and Leadership Conference on October 24, 2020. In this “realistic job preview” competition, team members had to leverage knowledge acquired through their studies and apply it to a realistic HR situation likely to be encountered in the work world.
Valerie Robbins-Roth, along with her teammates, Alexandria Webber, Cody Harrell, Ali Ghannam, Patricia Morrison, and Molly Chandler, utilized integrated HR thinking and ethical decision-making to inform their solutions to the presented HR problem. Their combined written and communication skills resulted in a clear, effective, and strategic solution.
“With the competition being virtual due to COVID-19, my team faced some initial challenges with having a short completion time and collaborating remotely. However, we were able to overcome these challenges and put forth some creative and innovative ideas. Each team member was focused, efficient, and agile! We are grateful for this exceptional applied experience and opportunity to network with local HR professionals," said Valerie Robbins-Roth, the case study team leader.
The Florida Tech SHRM student chapter looks forward to the continuation of educational and professional career development opportunities like the HR Florida Games Case Competition for its members. The chapter strives for inclusion and diversity, hosting events for campus students and community members, and increasing involvement.
